| Advanced Placement Three Dimensional Design Work is frequently so individual and experimental that grading is difficult to ascertain. Yet there are standards of quality in student work, expectations based on the evidence of thought, care, and effort demonstrated in the work. This is based on the California content standards for art. All students in the class have talent and should receive an "A" if work to meet their 8 slides/term is turned in on time. "B"'s indicates deadlines are not being met or the student is not putting forth enough effort in their artwork. A "C" at the 5 or 10-week greade report indicates that the student is probably not ready to take the class at this time, and should consider a less demanding class; perhaps taking the AP class the following year. Some students may not be ready for a college level class. Parents should be aware that class assignments might involve working from images of nudes or provocative images, which the students will interpret originally. If this poses a problem for the student an alternate subject choice will be given. There is a lab fee of $30. This fee will help purchase materials. Students also need to maintain a sketchbook for ideas, thoughts, assignments, etc. Slides of student work is $.50/slide @ 38 slides for their total portfolio. The Advanced Placement exam fee is approximately $87. Students can receive a fee reduction to $5 by demonstrating need. This fee covers the processing and grading of the portfolios. |
| Advanced Placement Art History Several assignments on each chapter are administered. These include quizzes, chapter tests, identification cards (Q-cards), brief written analysis, internet essays, and homework study guides. These address the California content standards for art. The course covers ancient to modern art with some analysis of non-western artwork. Students will be issued the textbook, Gardner's Art Through the Ages, 11th edition. The textbook needs to be handed in at the end of the term in the same condition or students will be charged for the entire book. Some incidental wear and tear does occur but in general the books should remain in good condition. The Advanced Placement exam fee is approximately $87. Students can receive a fee reduction to $5 by demonstrating need. This fee covers the processing and grading of the portfolios. Students will go on several field trips throughout the term and students at times will be exposed to provocative and explicit images. This is not intended to shock, but merely to illustrate the broad means in which humans have found expression of their ideas. |
